ERV & HRV Ventilation Systems
Tightly sealed homes can retain heat and energy, but they can also trap stale air, excess humidity, cooking odours, and indoor pollutants. Energy Recovery Ventilators (ERVs) and Heat Recovery Ventilators (HRVs) bring fresh outdoor air into your home while helping recover energy from the air being exhausted.
How It Works
These whole-home ventilation systems continuously exchange stale indoor air with fresh outdoor air while helping reduce the energy lost during ventilation.
01
Dual Air Streams
The system brings fresh outdoor air into the home while exhausting stale indoor air through separate air channels.
02
Energy Recovery Core
The incoming and outgoing air pass through a specialized exchanger core. The air streams do not mix, but heat and, in ERV systems, moisture can transfer between them. This helps pre-condition incoming outdoor air before it enters your home.
03
Integrated Filtration
Fresh outdoor air passes through built-in filters that help capture pollen, dust, and other outdoor particles before the air enters your home’s ductwork.
How It Works
| Feature | HRV (Heat Recovery Ventilator) | ERV (Energy Recovery Ventilator) |
|---|---|---|
| Transfer Type | Heat only (Sensible Energy) | Heat and moisture (Sensible + Latent Energy) |
| Humidity Impact | Removes excess humidity during winter months | Helps balance indoor humidity by retaining or transferring moisture |
| Ideal Climate | Cold northern winters with higher indoor moisture | Climate extremes, including cold winters and hot, humid summers |
| Primary Goal | Fresh air with maximum heat retention | Fresh air with broader temperature and moisture control |
Benefits of Whole-Home Humidification
ERV and HRV systems can help improve indoor air quality while supporting your home’s energy efficiency and comfort.
Healthier Indoor Air:
Helps remove stale air, cooking odours, pet dander, carbon dioxide, and other indoor pollutants.
Lower Energy Use:
Energy recovery can help reduce the heating or cooling energy lost during ventilation.
Humidity & Condensation Control:
Helps manage indoor moisture and reduce issues such as condensation and dampness.
Draft-Free Fresh Air:
Brings filtered outdoor air indoors without relying on open windows and the temperature changes that come with them.
